There are many reasons to love the summer season – like extra daylight, beach trips, and vacations, to name a few. But when you’re prone to oily skin, summer also brings extra heat and humidity, which causes your oil glands to work overtime!

While you can’t stop your oil glands from producing oil, there are things you can do to prevent yourself from looking overly greasy at that summer barbeque.

Tip 1: Use a foaming cleanser.

In general, bar soaps and foaming cleansers are better at removing sebum (the oily substances produced by glands) and are good choices for oily skin. Using a foaming cleanser like the Purifying Glycolic Foam Cleanser twice a day will help gently wash away dirt, debris, toxins, and dead skin cells. This particular cleanser also contains panthenol, which can help repair and minimize future blemishes. When cleansing, be sure to not irritate the skin by scrubbing too hard or over-cleansing.

Tip 2: Choose a non-greasy sunscreen.

Sunscreens are always a must during the summer! However, if you’re taking acne medications, the importance of using a good sunscreen daily is tenfold. Prescription acne medications make your skin more sensitive to the sun. Choose an oil-free, soothing sunscreen like the EGF UV Shield (SPF 50 PA +++). This sunscreen has a smooth consistency and does not leave a white cast.

Tip 3: Lighten up your makeup routine.

Having a full face of makeup during a hot, humid day is the worst thing you can do for acne prone skin! It can worsen your breakout due to increased mix of hormones, oil production, and inflammatory bacteria from heavy foundation. Lighten your routine by using the EGF Blemish Balm along with the EGF UV Shield. It has color matching technology to conceal discoloration and provides a more even skin tone. It also contains epidermal growth factor (EGF) to regenerate skin cells, speed the healing of blemishes, and unveil a fresh, youthful complexion. The EGF Blemish Balm is also on a buy one, get one sale this July.
